چکیده
Background and Aim: The aim of this study is to determine antioxidants defense mechanism in dental follicles (DFs) of partially erupted third molars with pericoronitis evaluating levels of superoxide dismutase (SOD). Materials and Methods: Fifty-eight dental follicles of partially erupted third molars with pericoronitis as a test group and 58 healthy gingival tissues of the same patients were obtained during surgical removal of teeth as a control group were involved in this study. All tissues samples were biochemically investigated for SOD as an indicator of protective mechanism against free radicals. Results: Levels of SOD were significantly lower in DFs of partially erupted third molars with pericoronitis than those from healthy gingival tissues of the same patients (p<0.05). Conclusion: The results of our study showed that an important antioxidant defense mechanism is not present DFs of partially erupted third molars with pericoronitis.

AIM The aims of this study were to investigate the association between pericoronitis and the angular position, state of eruption, and the depth of impaction of mandibular third molars as well as to compare these findings with similar studies. METHODS AND MATERIALS A total of 242 patients ranging in age from 18 to 41 years of age suffering from pericoronitis were examined. Subjective and objec...

Introdouction: Impacted and partially erupted third molars can cause various symptoms and pathologies. The aim of this study was to determine the association between commonly observed pathological conditions and the impaction depth of lower third molar teeth. Materials and methods: In this retrospective study, 370 panoramic radiographs including 724 lower third molars were evaluated to asses...

UNLABELLED Impacted third molars are a common reason for referral to the hospital dental service. Third molar impaction can be complicated by infection. We present two cases of osteomyelitis of the mandible developing secondary to pericoronitis of partially erupted lower third molars. One of the cases reported was recently diagnosed and treated while the other was diagnosed and treated 20 years...

T impaction of lower third molars is a common clinical finding, with a prevalence between 9.5% and 39% among different populations.1 Previous studies have indicated that normal eruption of lower third molars may be facilitated by extraction of the premolars before orthodontic treatment.2 Nonextraction therapy has been associated with more “abnormal” eruption of lower third molars compared to ex...
